WPI EMS is constantly looking for new members, both new to EMS and with previous experience. The squad operates at a First Responder level. If you currently hold a first responder certification by Massachusetts, or EMT certification from any state, you are qualified to join immediately and begin your probationary period with the squad.
For people without prior certification, WPI EMS holds annual first responder classes, the details of which can be found
here. The squad also provides our members with CPR/AED for the Healthcare Professional, and other necessary in-service training.
Once you join, you will become a probationary member, responding to calls with more experienced members. All new members, regardless of experience, must go through this phase to become familiar with our operation and protocols. Depending on your level of involvement and comfort, within a term or two, you will be progress to general member status.
In addition to providing coverage 24/7, WPI EMS also provides standby services to the larger events on campus, which will often present paid opportunities for our members. Additionally, our Massachusetts registered EMTs are paid to cover many of WPI's club sports and in lieu of trainers at athletic events.
